They were to be defended from any direction so that even if they were by-passed, they could still hold out and remain a thorn in the side of the enemy.
Guildford was one of these Nodal Points and the “Dragons Teeth” in Stoke Park form part of it’s defences.
Aroud the Dragons Teeth are also examples of other defences that were used by the Home Guard including several rifle pits which still remain in the area.
Another good example of preserved Dragon Teeth can be found nearby at London Road train station.

These "Dragons Teeth" anti-tank defences were installed during WW2. Contrary to popular belief they were not part of the nearby GHQ line of defences to contain an expected German invasion.
The GHQ Stop Line ran along the south face of the North Downs to Shalford where it then followed the River Wey through Godalming and Elstead around the Aldershot Command area.
By late 1940 the GHQ Stop Line had been side-lined as, with more equipment becoming available including tanks, the regular army reorganised and reformed after Dunkirk and together with reinforcements from the Dominion countries, mobile forces were formed that were not tied down to fixed defences.

The Dragons Teeth can be accessed via the footpath into the woods from the Guildford Spectrum where there is a car park.
To access the path walk around the left of the ramp leading to the main door to the Spectrum and follow the building line past the swimming pool until you reach the woods. Follow the footpath and the Dragons Teeth are visible.
Alternativly access the Dragons Teeth from the paths from the Burpham Nature Reserve.
